Step by step

How it works

  1. Choose your film or films

Search our catalogue by title, genre or decade. For a group poster pick two to eight films. If your film is missing, use “Request a film”: we usually create it within 48 hours.

  2. Design, theme and size

Choose one of six designs, light or dark, and a size: 30×40, 50×70 or 60×80 cm. Optionally add a frame in black or white.

  3. Your text

Write a title and subtitle, for example “Our Film Nights” and “since 2019”. The preview shows every change at once.

  4. Order and unpack

We print your poster to your specification and usually deliver in 3 to 6 working days. Shipping in Germany is €4.90, free from €80.

The idea

How we read a film's colours

A film has thousands of frames a minute. The poster shows them all at once, on one sheet, and you can read it at a glance: where it was cold, where warm, where it suddenly got bright?

  1. Slicing

We divide the film into very short slices of time. We trim opening logos and end credits.

  2. Finding the colours

For each slice we find the dominant colours. We do not use a plain average, because red, blue and green average out to a murky brown-grey almost every time.

  3. Fine-tuning

We adjust brightness and saturation to the background so dark films do not look muddy. The film's character stays intact.

  4. Drawing

Depending on the design, the colours become a barcode, rings, layers or a soundwave. Everything at 300 dpi for printing.
